MISSION STATEMENT

The Academic and the Legal Development of Acupuncture

The A.P.A.E.’s mission is the teaching and training of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine to Conventional Medicine Doctors, for the safety and well-being of the Portuguese population.
The purpose of confining our teachings to Conventional MDs has been to deregulate current policy and legislation to accept Acupuncture as a standard medical practice. It has been a lengthy and ongoing mission already in its 29th year.

Finally in 2004, the Portuguese Government approved a bill authenticating the practice of Acupuncture and specific Oriental Medicines. The Medical Order is also changing its policy, although they still consider acupuncture as an act of medical competence.
We are also determined to foster cooperation with other national and regional Acupuncture Associations to regulate the quality of legitimate Acupuncturists in Portugal. We believe that sharing our national and international experience will be a valuable step towards this end.

A.P.A.E. and W.F.A.S.

We believe in strengthening W.F.A.S.’s function and responsibility to help avoiding misunderstandings amongst fellow European and Asian Associations. In conjunction with other members, we would like to contribute to W.F.A.S.’s goals by improving communication, accountability and transparency.
